How to Zoom Out on Your Laptop: A Comprehensive Guide

There are many reasons why you might wish to zoom out of your laptop screen. Perhaps you need to minimise a rather large image or to simultaneously view multiple pages of a document. Either way, zooming out can be a bit of a challenge if you are not certain where to begin. Let us take a look at some options that can be accessed in no time at all.

Method One: The Ctrl Key

To zoom out, depress the Ctrl key followed by the minus (-) key. You can also click on these two keys more than once until you obtain the required resolution. Using the Ctrl key and the plus sign (+) will likewise enable you to zoom back in.

Method Two: Accessing Windows Settings

First, click the Start button that is normally found within the dashboard located at the bottom of your screen. You can then select the “Settings” option from the main menu. Choose the “display” field. It will thereafter be possible to zoom out and to perform other actions such as changing the screen resolution.

Method Three: Keyboard Shortcuts

There are also keyboard shortcuts that can take the guesswork out of modifying your laptop screen. While we already mentioned the Ctrl command, another option is to depress the Esc key and the Windows logo key at the same time. This will open a feature known as Magnifier. You can then use your mouse to change the current zoom level. Note that if your laptop has been custom built, there may be other commands that can produce the same results.

Other Options

The good news is that there are other possibilities if you encounter any issues with the steps above:

  • It is possible to zoom out of a video by accessing the settings function within the media player.
  • Tapping the gear icon in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge will immediately take you to your device settings (as highlighted in the second method).
  • Some laptop touchpads allow you to drag two fingers away from one another in order to zoom out.
  • Depressing the Ctrl key and spinning the scroll wheel on a separate mouse automatically accesses the zoom function.

Of course, there could still be instances when you run into a bit of trouble. In such cases, feel free to contact us directly. We are always here to help!
